History of Bagh By the 19th century, the accomplishment of bride and her mother and the affluence of the family were judged by the number and elaboration of the baghs that she received as part of her trousseau. This handicraft did not arise out of any pure artistic motive, but mainly to satisfy domestic necessity. The inborn talent and spontaneous approach of the uneducated village women, her deft hand and resourcefulness have raised such works out of the realm of necessity into the domain of art, pleasing in colour and designs as they are. |

Fine Art
The bagh-garden style has entire surface ornamented by a connected pattern. There are several kinds of baghs like shalimar bagh, chand bagh, mircha bagh, duniya bagh as also satranga seven coloured, panchranga five coloured and so on, each splendid in its own way. The third kind is chope where the edges are embroidered, with stylized motifs of flowers, fruits, birds along with geometrical patterns.

Procedure
The Bagh, literally meaning garden, has a variety of patterns inspired by nature. The panchranga five colours and the satranga seven colours are some of the richer variations of this style. The bawan fifty two bagh beats them all, as it has 52 different geometric patterns embroidered in one piece. In Bagh, the embroidery covers the surface so as to become the material itself. Here there is no right or wrong side, the stitches being even on both sides. These dresses are stitched by experts and painstakingly hand-embroidered using the best available materials.
